Before carrying on Shabbat around Surfside and Bal Harbour, call the eruv hotline (305-866-3788) to confirm it's up - it's checked every Erev Shabbat. The best season to visit is December through April: summer here is hurricane season (June-November), with a real risk of flight disruption.

Surfside and Bal Harbour are built for a walking Shabbat: shuls, kosher restaurants and the beach a few streets apart. Skip South Beach if you need to walk to shul.
