When you keep kosher and Shabbat, every trip starts with a few more questions. Where will we eat? Where can we pray? Is there a minyan nearby? A Chabad house? Which hotel works for Shabbat? And exactly when does Shabbat start here?
The information always existed. It was just scattered — across websites, groups, maps, apps and languages, and not always up to date.
We wanted a simpler way: one place that brings it all together.

I'm Yair, the founder of BooKasher.
I love to travel, to discover new places and to get to know the world through its people, its culture and its local food.
And as a Jew who keeps kosher and Shabbat, I've found that some of the best moments of a trip are the ones spent with the local Jewish community: a minyan in an unfamiliar city, a Shabbat meal with new friends, a kosher restaurant I never knew existed. You just have to know where to find them. That's how BooKasher was born.
BooKasher grew out of my own needs as a Jewish traveler. Today we're building it so that every Jew, anywhere in the world, can find their way to prayer, kashrut and community — and always feel at home.

Technology at the service of kashrut and Shabbat
When it comes to kashrut, Shabbat and prayer, accuracy isn't a luxury. So we built a system that checks the information before it goes on the site:
Kashrut from the source
We check restaurants against the kashrut authority's own list — the OU, the London Beth Din, Kosher Miami and others — or against the supervision the restaurant itself names. We show a supervisor only when the source names one, and confirm the place is still open at that address.
Stays that work for Shabbat
For every hotel and apartment, the system works out the walking distance to the nearest synagogue or Chabad house, and marks hotels with mechanical keys.
Precise times
Candle-lighting, havdalah and festival times are calculated live for each destination's exact location, and checked automatically every week.
Even so, kashrut and Shabbat are personal matters, and certifications change. It's always worth checking the current certificate on site.
- Kashrut certification
- We work to show the most accurate, up-to-date information, but a business's kosher status can change from time to time. For a smooth experience, we recommend confirming on site that the certificate is current and under the supervision you rely on.
- Shabbat and holiday times
- Verify times against a local calendar or the community rabbi on site, especially at high-latitude destinations and around clock changes.
- Synagogues, mikvehs and minyanim
- Opening hours and arrangements change; arranging ahead is recommended.
