The challenge in Japan isn't finding a kosher restaurant, it's what's hiding in the kitchen: fish stock (dashi) is in almost every soup and sauce, and so are mirin, sake and local soy sauce - which is why a "vegetarian" dish in Japan usually isn't kosher. There is one certified kosher restaurant in the whole country, David's Deli in Hiroo, and Chabad of Japan sells kosher products, supplies bread and publishes a list of kosher fish you can buy in an ordinary supermarket.

- Check availability of Shabbat and holiday meals at the kosher restaurants or the local Chabad house at least a few days in advance.
Stay in the kosher area of Tokyo
Tokyo does not have one obvious Jewish quarter. Chabad-Lubavitch of Japan (Chabad house listed on the site) is the anchor - book a hotel within walking distance of it rather than picking a random part of Tokyo.
