About this place

The island's only surviving synagogue, in Chania's historic Jewish quarter a short walk from the Venetian harbour. The 14th-15th century building served a Romaniote community until the Holocaust, stood in ruins for some 50 years, and was restored with international funding until its rededication on October 10, 1999. Today it operates as a non-denominational community with regular Kabbalat Shabbat and cultural events. Phone: +30-28210-86286.
