The Kosher Guide to Lyon: The 6th Arrondissement, the Lyon Beth Din and Where to Sleep for Shabbat
Lyon's kosher restaurants sit almost entirely in the 6th arrondissement, around Boileau, Baraban and Weill streets - all under the Lyon Beth Din, not Paris. The Great Synagogue is across the river, on Quai Tilsitt, which makes the 6th the comfortable base for Shabbat.
The restaurants in the 6th
The Fifty and Five (rated 4.7), on Rue du Professeur Weill, is a meat restaurant with sit-down cooking - a small room, book ahead. Comptoir 43 (4.5), on Rue Boileau, is a family grill, good for an evening with kids. Le Namal (4.4), on Rue Baraban, serves pita and Israeli grill, handy for lunch. All three are Lyon Beth Din supervised and closed Friday-Saturday. TODA still appears in old guides - it is not on the Beth Din's current list, so do not treat it as kosher.

The Grande Synagogue de Lyon (4.6), Sephardi / Consistoire rite, stands on Quai Tilsitt, by the river - a long walk from the 6th. Call ahead for davening. Chabad Lyon (4.6), on Rue Duguesclin, shares a building with the Consistoire and Beth Din - Shabbat meals by arrangement, not a restaurant.

For Shabbat, sleep in the 6th, near the restaurants, not in Vieux Lyon if you want to walk. A hotel like the Mercure Lyon Centre Saxe-Lafayette (4.2) sits by the 6th - no kosher kitchen, but you can walk from there to Comptoir 43 and Fifty & Five. Vieux Lyon itself, the old town (4.7), is a day's attraction - no kosher food inside, so eat in the 6th before crossing the river.

Lyon does not have one obvious Jewish quarter. Chabad Lyon (Chabad house listed on the site) is the anchor - book a hotel within walking distance of it rather than picking a random part of Lyon.
