Our guide

The Great Synagogue on Dohány Street - the famous one, the largest in Europe - belongs to the Neolog stream, with an organ and mixed seating. The Orthodox community is on Kazinczy Street, about five minutes' walk away in the same Jewish Quarter, and that is also where the mikveh and the kosher restaurants are - Hanna and Carmel.

Our recommendations

  • Base yourself around the Great Synagogue on Dohány Street and the vibrant Jewish Quarter, where most kosher restaurants are concentrated.
  • Check availability of Shabbat and holiday meals at the kosher restaurants or the local Chabad house at least a few days in advance.

Stay in the kosher area of Budapest

In Budapest, sleep in the 7th around the Dohány Street synagogue, not over in Buda. From there you walk to Chabad and the restaurants. For Shabbat, arrange a meal ahead.

To count as a booking, finish it in the same window after you click - it isn't saved for tomorrow.
