The Stadttempel, Vienna's main synagogue - the only one in the city that survived Kristallnacht - has been closed for renovation since October 2025 and won't reopen to visitors until the High Holidays in autumn 2026. Anyone who wants to attend a prayer service has to register in advance with a copy of their passport, at least three days ahead.
