Our guide

You can't just turn up at the Chatam Sofer's grave: it has to be arranged with the Jewish community at least 48 hours ahead, and the visit is made with a local guide. The site is closed on Shabbat, Jewish holidays and Mondays, and there's a dress code - long trousers, head covering for men, covered arms for women. The kosher cafe in the Zuckermandel quarter is right beside it.

Our recommendations

  • The new kosher cafe in the Zuckermandel quarter brought kosher dining back to the city after 80 years - worth coordinating ahead.
  • Check availability of Shabbat and holiday meals at the kosher restaurants or the local Chabad house at least a few days in advance.

Stay in the kosher area of Bratislava

Bratislava does not have one obvious Jewish quarter. Chabad of Slovakia (Chabad house listed on the site) is the anchor - book a hotel within walking distance of it rather than picking a random part of Bratislava.

To count as a booking, finish it in the same window after you click - it isn't saved for tomorrow.
