Rome has no eruv. Bring a Shabbat key belt - sold at the kosher grocery in the Ghetto - or leave your key at reception. The city's water fountains run everywhere, so you can walk without a bottle.

Our guide
Every kosher restaurant in Rome is under the Beth Din of the Jewish Community of Rome (Chief Rabbi Riccardo Shmuel Di Segni), but most are not Mehadrin or Glatt - all of them do use only Gvinat Yisrael. If you keep mehadrin, check each place individually before you travel. And you can't simply walk into the Great Synagogue: the only way in is with a Jewish Museum ticket, which includes a guided tour of the synagogue.
