Our guide

Every kosher restaurant in Rome is under the Beth Din of the Jewish Community of Rome (Chief Rabbi Riccardo Shmuel Di Segni), but most are not Mehadrin or Glatt - all of them do use only Gvinat Yisrael. If you keep mehadrin, check each place individually before you travel. And you can't simply walk into the Great Synagogue: the only way in is with a Jewish Museum ticket, which includes a guided tour of the synagogue.

Our recommendations

  • Base yourself around the historic Jewish Ghetto, home to most of the kosher restaurants and Rome's unique Italian prayer rite.
  • Check availability of Shabbat and holiday meals at the kosher restaurants or the local Chabad house at least a few days in advance.

Stay in the kosher area of Rome

For Shabbat in Rome, base yourself in or near the Jewish Ghetto - Chabad of Rome (Chabad house listed on the site) is within walking distance from there, along with the other kosher listings for the city.
