Our guide

Most of Paris's kosher restaurants are in the 4th (the Marais), 9th, 17th and 19th arrondissements - not necessarily near the sights you came to see. On Rue des Rosiers there are several falafel counters that look almost identical, and not all of them are supervised, so look for a certificate at the door. One good sign: a certified place closes on Friday at sundown and stays shut on Shabbat.

Our recommendations

  • Start your visit in the Marais quarter - everything is walkable.
  • Check availability of Shabbat and holiday meals at popular restaurants or the local Chabad house at least a few days in advance.
  • For Shabbat near the Champs-Élysées: Chabad of the Champs-Élysées (122 Av. des Champs-Élysées) hosts prayers and Shabbat and holiday meals with advance registration. Hôtel Belfast, ~10 minutes' walk away, is their recommendation for Shabbat-observant guests - regular keys and no sensors.
  • Near the Grand Synagogue (La Victoire): Hôtel Aida Opéra on Rue Richer serves a kosher breakfast under Paris Beth Din supervision and offers a mechanical key on request.
  • When booking a hotel in Paris, ask explicitly for a room with a mechanical key on a low floor - it can almost always be arranged in advance, and almost never at check-in.

Stay in the kosher area of Paris

For Shabbat in Paris, sleep in the Marais or near a synagogue in the 17th, not any hotel in the centre. From here you walk to restaurants and minyan - no métro.
